Who Am I?

I'm Susannah Johnston.  For more than 20 years I've worked with individuals and groups, focusing on safe and appropriate movement and stress reduction techniques. I’m the creator of the Forever Yoga with Susannah YouTube channel. In 2021 I founded The Strong Bones Challenge Facebook Group which now has over 22k active members. I've helped thousands of women through this community find the inspiration to do healthy bone-strengthening activities.

I'm passionate about building bone density safely and naturally, prioritizing movement and diet as key contributors to lasting change.

Twelve years ago, I got the call from my doctor informing me that I had osteopenia.

I was instantly shocked and confused. I had a million questions. Would I be able to keep walking my dog? Would I ever be able to pick up my future grandchildren? Was the yoga I was currently doing even safe?

What exercises should I be doing, and which should I avoid? What role did diet, supplements and medications play in making sure my bone density didn’t get any worse?

I tackled these questions head on and researched everything I could about bone loss. If you've been down that same rabbit hole, you know how much info is out there and how conflicting it can be.

To cut through the noise, I dove into expert territory with those who believe in the power of movement and strength training when it comes to improving bone density. Some of my primary influences include physical therapist Margaret Martin (Melioguide), Sara Meeks (The Meeks Method) and Dr. Susan B. Brown (Better Bones).

My approach to practicing and teaching yoga evolved through my studies with Cecily Milne (Yoga Detour) and Jenni Rawlings who have developed exciting, science-based, strength-focused alternatives to conventional yoga practice. I'm BoneFit certified by Osteoporosis Canada and integrate bone science into movement practices that are safe, accessible, and empowering.

I developed my own Strong Bones program to hold myself accountable and apply what I’ve learned.

After following this program for the past decade I’m not only in better shape than the day I received my OP diagnosis—I feel more optimistic and enthusiastic about what each day will bring.

Now I want to help you experience the same thing.
